Wow Laurel had exceeded my expectations! We got a reservation for Saturday at 6pm and the food and service were excellent! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with questions we had with the menu. At first glance at the menu, you might think that the food isn't too expensive, but do be aware that things do add up. The portions are smaller and the plates are meant to be shared. For the two of us, they had suggested we order 6-8 plates. We were told that the menu rotates and is seasonal. The balance of the flavors and textures really did feel like one of those out of body moments. The food was so delicious. We ordered: - sourdough bread (this ended up being bread from mighty bread, just an FYI, personally next time I would get something else although it is really good!) -shrimp with beef fat and cassis (a very light and refreshing cold shrimp dish with a nice balance of tartness and a touch of sweetness) -oyster mushrooms with crispy potatoes, koji, and caviar (sooooo umami and amazing textures, really memorable dish and really rich flavors. Plate licking good) -trout with peppers and crème fraiche (this was outstanding, extremely flavorful and perfect textures and the peppers were really charred and maybe were pickled before) -Hanger steak with brown butter, Worcestershire and dijon (some of the best steak I've had in a while. Super tender and there's this almost caramel popcorn flavor that is really present in the initial notes but melts away. Kind of an amazing experience haha. I personally thought the Dijon was a little overpowering with the notes of the brown butter.) The ambiance is very cute converted town home vibes and there are cute little quirks like the alien themed bathroom on the lower floor. Overall, really really enjoyed the food here and can't wait to try another menu for another special event!

Sorry I didn't write this earlier when I remembered the specifics. But I do remember the food was delicious and the service was perfect. One of the best restaurants in Philly.

Went there for Valentines Day and did the tasting menu. Overall, a good experience with tasteful food that appeases the palate but not sure if worth the price. The ambience is great, the music is a bit different from what you would expect from a cozy restaurant but no complaints. My only gripe was that the tables were very close together and we were practically sharing a table with the next door - unsure if they were trying to sit more people that day but even the staff were having a difficult time trying to get to them. The food was good - it was fancier than your typical restaurant and I appreciated the chef effort to giving us a meal that would show their curiosity and passion. I took note that there was a theme of colour that day as well, kudos

Just recently went to Laurel again for dinner, third time in as many months. It never fails to provide a fabulous dining experience. Chef Nick Elmi continues to perform at the top of his game with creative and delicious menus and a service staff that is top notch. Chef Nick didn't happen to be there my last visit but kudos to chef Kevin who made us an absolutely amazing dinner. BTW the cocktails are great too. We are fortunate to have an establishment of this high caliber in Philly. Can't wait to go back.

Celebrate double birthdays. We did the tasting menu. The food was fantastic and service was great! I would recommend

Came back to Laurel after several years and the quality of the food did not disappoint. The nice thing is that they offer an a la carte option which wasn't available when I went last. For my bf's birthday, we decided to go with the tasting menu. The tasting menu was $120 pp with a total of 6 plates with dessert w/ an amuse bouche. -Amuse Bouche: raw oyster w/ roe and pickled peppers which was nice and savory w/ a little saltiness that balanced the dish. -Fava beans w/ ricotta which was light and refreshing -carpaccios w/ pickled strawberries which was very delicious and refreshing -oyster mushroom w/ crème and fried potatoes (on the a la carte menu also) VERY DELICIOUS and probably my favorite of the whole tasting menu -trout w/ roasted poblano pepper which was delicious as well -pork cheeks(?) - can't exactly remember the cut but it was good yet fatty. Some parts were slightly more chewy than the rest. Dessert - cherry sorbet w/ chocolate mousse which was very refreshing. For drinks, my bf got the Negroni which was phenomenal and I got a glass of wine. Service was fantastic and our server was extremely attentive. The ambiance was intimate w/ a great playlist. Overall the food was great but I would go with the a la carte menu rather than the tasting. It didn't seem quite worth it especially for the price. Otherwise, we will be back!

Wonderful anniversary meal! The staff were great, appreciate the server explaining the menu and tasting/pairing options before we even had to ask. The space is a little tight though. We had a 6 course tasting, chef's choice, with wine pairing. Started with an oyster amuse bouche. The squash is so delicate you wouldn't know what it is as a composed dish. Love crudo, nicely done. The eggplant was something different, good different. The fried fish with squid ink sauce was the tastiest fish I've had in a long time, loved it! And the beef, OMG! We could have ordered another round of that. I'm a cheese lover, so I enjoyed the last course but would have preferred it sooner. The beef was last bite good. But it's all cheese, if that's not your thing. And I don't remember what the dessert was but of course we finished that. We had a funky red paired with a course that I would never think to buy, but it worked. And the Grutner was definitely my favorite. Good choices! Great night, would definitely go back. Thanks, Laurel for a lovely anniversary dinner.
